My little girl loves music. She loves to sing & to dance and she loves her musical instruments. Like most kids, she loves anything that she can make noise with.
We were watching cartoons the other day and one of the characters was playing a pan flute. My husband & I began referencing Zamfir & his famous pan flute music. After the cartoon & the Zamfir conversation, it made me want to make one.
All you will need for this is drinking straws, tape & scissors.
I only had bendy straws, so I started by snipping the bending portion off of all of the straws. Then I trimmed each one so that each straw would be shorter than the next as shown.
I used a piece of masking tape to bind the straws together tightly. I wrapped it a couple more times with colored duct tape. Once you have taped it up, it is ready to use.
My daughter very quickly & curiously approached me. “What do you have, mama?” “Can I see it?” I quickly demonstrated for her how to use it & then let her follow suit.
To make music, blow across the straws without touching your mouth to the straws. Your child might have to try a few times until they figure out the best way. It will make a whistling wind sound. My daughter loved this.
It was so quick & easy to make. It took me about 10 minutes to put cut & put together. She liked it so much that she asked if she could bring it to her next show & tell day at school.
