Paper Plate Bumble Bee

We are already a few days into spring and we couldn’t be happier. We have been spending a lot of time outdoors and can’t wait to see all of our springtime blooms. When discussing with my little one what would be a good craft to make for the spring, she suggested this. We do a lot of interactive crafts and she thought it would be cute to make a bumble bee flying from flower to flower. She was right. We think this paper plate bumble bee craft came out absolutely adorable. Thanks little miss for the great idea.

Nature Hearts Art

If you heart nature and nature crafts like we do, you will surely love these gorgeous nature hearts.

My daughter and I love the outdoors. Being outside is therapy for the mind and for the body. Nothing brings me greater joy than watching my little girl running, playing and splashing outside. There is one thing that we love almost as much as being out in the nature and that is making nature crafts. In fact, we cannot go on a hike or walk without my daughter gathering rocks or acorns or pine cones for arts and craft projects. She has nature collections scattered everywhere. What better way for us to show our love for nature than with these beautiful nature hearts?

Dandelion Lions Nature Craft

These spring dandelions sure do make dandy little lions.

The spring has sprung and so have all of the dandelions. If your yard is anything like mine, it is covered in them.  My daughter loves to pick them. She weeds our yard all the time and doesn’t even realize it. She picked me a bunch the other day and we started talking about how dandelion sounds like dandy lion. My daughter cleverly pointed out to me that the dandelion looked like a lion’s mane. That is what inspired this simple “dandy lions” nature craft.

Painting With Make-up Brushes

Do not toss your old make-up brushes, use them to create something fun.

My daughter loves trying to play with my make-up brushes. So she was excited when I treated myself to new make-up and brushes this week and set my old applicators and brushes aside for her. We thought that the applicators would be fun to paint with. We weren’t wrong.

Q-Tip Daisy Craft

These Q-tip daisies are an adorable craft and are great for fine motor skills.

Cotton swabs are not just for your ears. We use them in art projects often. They are great to paint with. They are fun to craft with as well. We used bare Q-tips to make these simple daisies for the spring, but you could also dip the Q-tips in paint and create other colorful flower creations.

Cardboard Tube Bud Vase

Mother’s day is a month away. If you are looking for a cute gift idea for mom or grandma, these simple cardboard tube vases might be just what you are looking for.

My daughter loves to run around the yard and pick flowers for me. It is the sweetest thing. We will usually put the flowers in a Dixie cup and save them, but we thought that it would be nice to make and design our own bud vases. These cardboard tube vases are perfect for the spring and would make an adorable Mother’s Day gift. You can choose to make a tapered vase, as we did or keep it even simpler and keep the tube as is and glue it to a base.

Picasso Inspired Cubism Art For Kids

This Picasso inspired art project is a wonderful introduction to Cubism for the kids. This is great for an individual or a collaborative project.

My daughter and I stumbled across a book at the library a couple of weeks ago and it quickly became a new favorite of ours. Emily’s Blue Period (affiliate link) is a lovely book about a young girl who wants to become an artist and is studying the works of Pablo Picasso. Emily is also struggling with big emotions about her parent’s recent split. The book discusses Picasso’s blue period, his work in collage and his Cubism style of art. My daughter, like the young girl in the book, became fascinated by Picasso. We flipped through his artwork online and read more about him. This weekend, after reading the book for the umpteenth time, she wanted to make a “cube” project.

Nature and Watercolors

Nature and watercolors combine to make a beautiful and fun piece of process art.

With the warmer weather here, we have been playing outdoors a lot more. All of this outdoor play means our nature boxes are filling up with great supplies for art projects and crafts. We gather and collect nature items all of the time and set them aside in boxes. It is fun to find different shaped leaves, rocks and cool looking plants. My five year old loves to glue nature items to paper to make collages. That is where we found inspiration for this nature and watercolors project.Nature and watercolor paints art collage for kids. A pretty and fun piece of process art for the preschoolers and kids.
