Watercolor Dipped Flower Art

This pretty watercolor technique is perfect for the spring or summer.

In our house, we love to work with watercolors. We like to make our own because we go through them so quickly. We have made solid watercolorswhich we love to use, but most of all, we just water down acrylic paints or mix food coloring with water. It just so happens that we did both of these things this past week and had quite a bit of both leftover to create these gorgeous watercolor dipped flowers. Watercolor dipped flower art. Nature Crafting With Clay

I am beginning to think more and more that my four year old and my husband are the real writers of this blog, especially my little girl. She has been coming up with so many amazing ideas on her own lately, that I cannot help but beam with pride. Both of the crafts here today are inspired by my crafty clan.

My husband had a great idea to build log cabins out of sticks. I thought this would be a fun project for me and my daughter. We grabbed a box and set out to gather supplies, which as you know is always half of the fun. We gathered sticks and my daughter also grabbed a few acorns and rocks that she found.

We usually just make our own salt dough clay, but I had been curious about polymer clay for a while & wanted to experiment with it. The polymer was so easy to work with & was fun to work with as well.

I didn’t really know what I wanted to make, but just started breaking off chunks &  rolling them into balls & long strips. I played with the long rolled strips a little & came up with something cute, fun & easy to make.

Roll & Wrapped Clay Pendants

To form a flower-like creation, break off chunks from a few different colors of clay. Roll them lightly together into a ball & then roll out with your fingers to make a long thin rope-like strip.

Roll in at one end a couple of times to form a small spiral. Then loosely wrap & loop around & under the spiral.

After you have reached your desired size & shape, roll out a strip of green clay & form loops to form leaves.IMG_8226 IMG_8227

Follow package directions to bake your pendants. When they are hardened & cooled, run a craft string through one of the loops.  You may tie off at the ends or attach a clasp to the string. These were so fun to make. I couldn’t stop making them.

Craft Stick Fences

Popsicle stick nature craft for kids - pretty spring or summer arts & craft project.

This week we have been playing with a box of jumbo craft sticks. We have made craft after craft with our craft sticks. We glued them together in a number of different designs. We made a few craft stick fences, which is not a new idea by any means, but we decided to dress up our fences with a little paint & a little touch of nature.

My daughter & I enjoyed picking flowers for our project. We gathered a variety of flowers & leaves.

We used tacky glue to glue our craft sticks together as shown.

We both painted our glued fences with acrylic paints & then let them dry. I went with a simple white fence, while my daughter opted for a little more color.

Once dry, we used the tacky glue to glue pieces of flowers & leaves to the fence.
