Soda Bottle Boats - sink them or float them

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day. If your weather was anything like ours was, you had a beautiful day to enjoy it in. We spent most of the day outside playing in Mai’s kiddie pool. We made sailboats out of 20 oz. soda bottles and sailed them around all day. Here is how…

Cut the bottom of the bottles off.

Rinse & dry the bottoms. Sand off any rough edges if sharp.

Cut pieces of drinking straws & foam pieces to form a mast & flag.

Add a generous amount of glue to the edge of the foam. Let cool slightly & then press onto the straw. Add a generous amount of glue to the center of the bottle. Again let it cool slightly & then press aย straw into it. Add embellishments if you like. We added puffy stickers to our boats to dress them up a little.

We grabbed our quick & easy crafts and took them outside to play with them. Mai attacked her boats with her rubber shark & sunk them all.

She had more fun sinking them than floating them. She kept scooping the water with her hands & pouring it until she sunk them & then would dump them out & sink them all over again.

  1. My little guy just got a water table – now I know what to make with him for it! And I bet he will totally sink them, too, once he figures it out! Thanks so much for sharing at the Creative Inspiration Party – hope to see you again tonight!
