My daughter got an Irish Fairy Door for her birthday. We put it in her playroom, decorated the space around it & she  fell in love with it. Since then, she loves all things fairy.

Her fairy door & her love for clay prompted a magical craft.

What you will need:

Clay

Rocks, twigs, pine cone pieces, flowers etc..

Popsicle sticks

Acrylic paints

Glue

As always, we started with a simple clay recipe. We rolled out the clay with a rolling pin & cut out door shapes. My daughter wanted a rectangular shaped door & I opted for a rounded top. We rolled a small circle for the knob.

We used Popsicle sticks to imprint on the clay. We pressed rocks and pine cone pieces into the clay. I felt safe with the rocks & pine cone pieces being baked in the oven, but use your own judgment as to what you feel comfortable with. We set the twigs and leaves aside until after baking.

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Bake time will vary depending on thickness of clay. Ours took about 1 1/2 hours.

When they are finished, allow them to cool for a few minutes before painting. My little fairy picked her colors & we painted our doors together. The acrylics dried quickly & we used glue to glue on bits of tree branch.

My daughter only wanted one branch on hers. “Mine is really pretty, right mama? It looks like a tropical door.” It really did. She was so excited that she asked if she could take her own photo of her door. Her door & her photo came out great.
