Shapes For Negative Space Painting

Simple to make shapes for negative space painting. Fun & easy art projects for kids

We made our own DIY scratch cards this week. While we were painting the cards, I noticed how cool the paint looked under each of the cards. We have made negative space art before, but I just really liked the look with the simple shape. I thought my little girl & I could do an art project with this idea in mind.

I cut shapes out of cardboard.  I chose a heart, triangle & circle. I used a glue gun to glue toilet paper rolls to the center of each shape.

My daughter & I used our shapes for some fun painting projects.

The tubes acted as handles to keep from getting paint all over our hands while we held the shapes in place.

We left some of our shapes plain.

And we filled in some with paint. The shapes worked well. We flipped them upside down to dry & put them away for the next time.
