If you are looking for a kid’s craft for Memorial Day or The Fourth of July, this corrugated cardboard flag is just the thing you need.
If you are an Amazon addict like I am, you probably are rolling in cardboard boxes. We adore cardboard. It is a great material for arts and crafts. We are especially fond of working with corrugated cardboard. It works wonderfully for printmaking and the texture makes for interesting crafts. The ridges on the cardboard make a perfect template for the stripes on this corrugated cardboard flag.
What you will need:
Cardboard
Acrylic paints in red, white and blue
Jumbo craft stick
Glue
Pencil or pen
Directions:
Cut a piece of cardboard into a rectangle. Draw a small rectangle in the corner to form the stars portion of your flag.
Use a pair of scissors to break through the cardboard on the drawn line, but do not cut through it.
Peel back the cardboard all around the drawn area to reveal the ridges. This was my daughter’s favorite part. The peeling is fun.
My daughter was far more thorough than I was. She peeled off every last bit of cardboard and even used a pair of scissors to scrape each ridge.
Alternate painting your ridges in red and white paint.
Paint the unpeeled rectangle with blue paint and then let dry. Once the paint dries, use white paint to form your stars. You can just dot them on with a thin paint brush.
When your paint has dried completely, glue a jumbo craft stick on the back to make your flag pole.
This patriotic craft is perfect for the season.
Make a bunch and wave them during the fireworks on the Fourth of July.
