Pine Cone Fall Tree Craft

My obsession with fall trees continues. I’m obsessed! I admit it. I just can’t help myself. They are just so beautiful. Last winter, we made lovely snow-covered trees and Christmas trees out of pine cones, so we thought why not try this with fall trees as well. We just so happened to have a large bag of assorted pine cones kicking around and have been waiting for a reason to use them. Nature and recyclables combine to make this colorful pine cone fall tree.

What you will need:

Pine cones (Fuller pine cones will work best.)

Acrylic paint in fall colors

Cardboard tube

Piece of cardboard

Low temp glue gun

Black Sharpie

Directions:

Paint the scales of the pine cone in reds, yellows, oranges, greens and browns. You don’t need to paint every scale. You may paint them in solid colors or speckle them. Once you have finished painting your pine cone, set it aside to dry.

Cut a cardboard tube the long way.

Roll the tube back up tightly making one end of the tube wider than the other. Use a low temp glue gun to glue it into place.

Trim any excess off of the top and the bottom of tube. Make sure that the bottom is even and can stand alone. Paint the tube in brown paint. When the paint dries, use a Black Sharpie to draw lines onto the tube to give the appearance of bark.

Cut a circle out of a piece of cardboard to form the base. Dot the circle base with the fall colored paints so that it looks like a ground full of fallen leaves. Let the paint dry.
