We love silhouettes. We have done a number of silhouette projects over the years and we are really excited about this one. These scarecrow silhouette paintings are perfect for the fall and Halloween. You can make them as haunting or cute as you want.
This weekend I took my daughter and my niece apple picking. Alongside the rows of apple trees were sunflowers as far as the eye could see. Those pretty sunflowers were the inspiration for our latest landscape painting. This field of sunflowers is perfect for the fall, super easy to make and looks just beautiful. Get your paint brushes ready little painters. This is going to be a fun one.
My daughter and I love the famous artists. We also love playing around with different paint techniques. We combined the two for these Monet inspired landscape sponge paintings. The sponge created a wonderful backdrop for these impressionist style paintings. We chose Monet’s Water Lilies and Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies as our inspiration. These were quick, fun and easy, albeit a little bit messy, but we were both delighted at how they came out.
A while back my daughter and I had fun experimenting with yarn and canvas to create a few interesting pieces of abstract resist art. I stumbled across those pieces the other day and remembered how much fun they were to make. Looking at them, gave me idea. I love birch trees and thought that this technique might work well for making birch tree landscape paintings. With a little help from my little girl, we played around with this method. We love the results and are excited about how simple and pretty these are.

We love experimenting with different painting techniques. Recently, we played around with salt painting. The process was so cool and generated a lot of ooohs and ahhhs from my daughter. She loved the way the paint spread out quickly as it touched the salt. Today, we switched the salt for sugar. The technique and results were equally cool. The color also spread out in interesting patterns when it touched the sugar and it left a gorgeous glossy finish. We used this method to create a pretty sunflower painting for fall. Here’s how.
Try sprinkling salt on a freshly painted watercolor picture and see what happens. It is lovely. Another cool process is painting on the salt with watercolors. This is a messy process, but a fun one that will certainly delight your kids. A word of warning, this technique is more about the process and the fun than the final product. Our family took a trip to the zoo yesterday. We saw a lot of amazing animals during our visit, but my favorite of them all was the peacocks. I love peacocks. They are so majestic and beautiful. Seeing these amazing creatures inspired our latest project. We have made peacocks in the past. Last year. we made them by painting with bleeding tissue paper. My daughter loves trying to play with my make-up brushes. So she was excited when I treated myself to new make-up and brushes this week and set my old applicators and brushes aside for her. We thought that the applicators would be fun to paint with. We weren’t wrong.
When the nice weather hits, we head outdoors. Our days are spent playing in the yard, going on hikes and creating art. Warm weather means that we can start getting messy with the paint and chalk. We love to bring our craft roll (affiliate link) outside and lay it on the driveway and paint in the sun. It all started rather normally. We gathered our paints and brushes and went outside. One of the paint brushes started to roll down our driveway. I stopped it with my foot and grabbed it with my toes and then ding ding ding, we decided to get a little silly.
