Paint Chip Mosaic Fall Tree Craft

As you all know, we are getting ready to move in the fall. Our new home is still under construction & we have so many decisions still to make. We have cabinets & counter tops to pick out, we need to decide on new appliances & we have to figure out what color paint we want on all of our walls. I have been having a difficult time picking out our paint colors. Every time I think that I have picked the colors that I want, I change my mind & collect more samples. I have paint swatches everywhere. After a lot of thought, I think that I finally came to a decision.

Pasta Mosaic Craft & Activity

pastamosaic

This weekend it was my husband’s birthday. For his birthday, we had a nice family breakfast and spent some quality time together, but daddy really wanted to watch football today. Since he so willingly gives up football every Sunday for Paw Patrol & Doc McStuffins, Mai & I were determined to let him watch his team play today. We needed an activity to keep our little one occupied for a long period of time.

As you all probably already know, I am a huge fan of pasta crafts. We have more boxes of pasta for crafting than we do for eating in our house. One of my favorite pastas to use is Ditalini. When dyed, it looks like beads. We made pasta jewelry a while back and colored much more of the small pastas than we needed. We had a ton leftover to use. We just needed a project that we could use them on.

Luckily we had the perfect activity in mind that both kept her busy for a shockingly long long time & used up all of our little Ditalini.

Spread out Play-Doh in the center of a paper plate.

Have them press the pasta pieces into the Play-Doh one by one.

You can also use another pasta to outline a shape and work around it.

This was a fun activity and craft for us. I was impressed with how thorough and thoughtful Mai was when placing each piece as if she already had a plan for each piece.

Hey, why does yours look better than mommy’s?

Salt dough and nature items are our favorites materials to create with hands down. I don’t know what is more fun, gathering the nature or pressing it into the dough and seeing what new and exciting things that you can come up with. There are so many amazing possibilities. We have made nature islands with branches and leaves and pine cone creatures with pipe cleaners. And do you remember when we made those adorable fairies with acorns, sticks and clay? Well those little fairies needed a home and we couldn’t wait to make them one. These sweet pine cone fairy houses are simple and enchanting.

Wood Slab Leprechaun House

My daughter has had a lot of questions about leprechauns. “Are they like an elf?” “Where do they live?” “Do they live in gingerbread houses?” These are just a few of the questions that I have received from my little girl in recent weeks. We looked up some pictures of leprechauns and where they live. “Mama, the leprechaun’s house looks like my fairy door.” Leprechauns and their homes are indeed enchanting and magical just like the fairies that my daughter loves so much. Wood Slab Leprechaun house and door. St Patrick's Day arts and crafts for kids. Paint, stickers, nature and gemstones made these pretty doors. A fairy house could be made as well.

Clay & Rock Nature Crafts

My daughter and I are always trying to come up with new arts & crafts ideas. My 4 year old has quite the creative mind & brings a lot of amazing ideas to the table. We like to think of new projects, but there are still some favorites that we can do over & over again. My daughter’s favorite activity is making nature islands out of clay & items that we collect from our yard. We gather art supplies from our backyard often.

Mixed Media Collages For Kids

Kid's Collage Project using mixed media - painting & process art

Ever since we introduced our daughter to cutting & her safety scissors, all she wants to do is cut. I have scraps of paper lying around everywhere. We have done several crafts & activities to feed her new-found love for cutting. Her new thing is to draw pictures and cut them out & then glue them together in a collage on another piece of paper. She refers to these as “her mosaics”.

She loves making these and each one always tells a story. Last night, we cut up some of the scraps into shapes.

I intended to use them to make a shape craft, but Mai had another idea in mind.  She grabbed some shapes & wanted to paint them. I gave her some paints & she painted away.

IMG_1858

She had a small cupcake liner full of glitter from a previous project that was still out. She dumped that onto one of her paintings & then proceeded to paint the inside of the liner too.  “Look mama, doesn’t this painting look like Starry Night?”, she said about one of her paintings.

I handed her more shapes & we pulled out some other art supplies to use on our shapes. She grabbed crayons, markers & colored pencils. She pulled out glue & some buttons too and we worked on more shapes.

She grabbed a circle & drew a picture. She explained to me that it was a memory ball just like in the movie ‘Inside Out’. She drew a girl crying in the middle of the ball and told me it was Sadness.

This piece was a slice of pepperoni pizza because she looooves pepperoni pizza.

IMG_1857

I made a few shapes too.

IMG_1855

We let the paint dry on our pieces while we cleaned up & got ready to go to bed. Right before bed, we glued the shapes onto another piece of construction paper.

IMG_1861

She then used markers to finish off her collage by coloring in some of the free space. “Let’s paint more!!” Not tonight little girl. It is time for bed. We can paint more tomorrow, but until then have sweet dreams about Starry Nights and pizza.
