Paint Roller Tape Resist Art

Paint Roller Tape Resist Art - The paint on paint tape resist creates a beautiful marbled look for your letters.

Our upcoming move has become a great source of inspiration in our crafts lately. With all of the time that we have been spending packing & fixing up our house to put it on the market, it is no wonder. We painted our finished cellar last week. My daughter wanted to help my husband roll the paint on the walls, but being the paranoid mom that I am, I did not want her downstairs breathing in the paint fumes. It did give me an idea though. I thought it might be fun for her to use a smaller detail roller to make a pretty piece of art.

White-Out Resist Painting

White Out Resist Painting

Yesterday we found ourselves in a little bit of a dilemma. We did not have any childcare for our daughter. I was just returning from being out for a full week after my gall bladder surgery & my husband could not take the day off either. We were not sure what we were going to do. My brother-in-law volunteered to take her, but would not be able to get her until the afternoon, so I asked my work if I could bring my daughter to work for a few hours in the morning. They said “No problem”, so Mai came to work with me.

Wax Paper Ghosts

We love Halloween and making Halloween arts and crafts in our home. This year so far, we have made cauldrons, witches’ shoes, jack-o-lanterns, scarecrows, mummies, and pumpkin patches, but no ghosts. Ghost crafts have always been a tricky one for me. Ghosts should be transparent, shouldn’t they? But, it seems like they never are. That’s what makes the wax paper so great in these wax paper ghosts, even with a little paint they still keep some of their transparency and look adorably haunting.

Pastel & Watercolor Winter Scenes

We are expecting our first snowfall tomorrow. There are very few things as beautiful to me than the first snowfall of the year. Just the thought of snow, made me giddy and inspired this fun and pretty art project for the kiddos. We live in the woods, so I just wanted something that looked like our backyard after a snow storm.

This is an easy painting project that will be fun for kids to adults. I think they will love how the pastel resist and the watercolors work together to make these simple winter scenes.

Shape Castle Silhouettes With Watercolors

It is Harry Potter mania in my house. My daughter and I just finished book one, The Sorcerer’s Stone and are now moving on to The Chamber of Secrets.  She is in love with all things Harry Potter and so am I.  This past week the focus has been on Hogwarts Castle. I love castles and with all of the Harry Potter talk in the house I felt inspired to paint a little bit of Hogwarts. This kicked off our castle projects. We have been practicing drawing and painting castles and made these fun castle silhouettes with watercolors and construction paper.

If you have a reader and crafter at home, these mixed media bookmarks are a great idea.

I have been reading to my little girl since the day that she was born. Reading is an important part of my life and I wanted to make sure that it was the same for my daughter. I tried teaching her to read as soon as I thought that she was ready. She loved books, but it was no easy feat. She was resistant and would get frustrated easily. This year, she started Kindergarten and it became even more important for us to work on her reading together. Still, she did not like working with mommy and then we were introduced to Reading Eggs.
