Layered Scribble Hearts

If you are looking for a simple Valentine’s Day project that is also great for developing cutting skills, these easy scribble hearts are just the thing that you are looking for.

I am sure that I have said it to you before, but my daughter loves hearts. She is always cutting them out of construction paper and coloring them or drawing designs on them.

One of her latest creations was the inspiration for this simple Valentine’s craft.

All you will need is construction paper, scissors (We used scrapbook scissors, but regular scissors will be fine as well.), markers and a glue stick.

We gathered different shades of construction paper in pinks and reds, but you can do this with the colors of your choosing. To begin, we drew a base heart about a 1/4 of the size of a piece of construction paper.

We cut the heart out using a pair of decorative scrapbook scissors.

We cut the next heart a bit smaller than the first, using a pair of scissors with a different design. I traced the first heart as a reference and then cut it smaller then the first. For the next heart, I traced the second heart and cut that one even smaller and continued this way with each heart layer.

My daughter cut her different sized hearts more freely. She loved using the fancy scissors.

Once our hearts were cut, we used markers to doodle and scribble on each of our hearts.

We scribbled, colored and doodled. Once we were done, we layered and glued all of our hearts on top of each other from largest to smallest.

If you are looking for a Valentine’s Day craft or if you are just a heart lover like my little one, these are a great idea and such a wonderful way to work on scissor skills.
