Hearts, hearts, hearts, my daughter love hearts. She doodles them and cuts them out of construction paper all of the time. With her love for hearts, Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday for my little love bug.

We have been dabbling a lot with mixed media art. My daughter and I love doing these projects together. I had an idea to make a set of love birds using heart shapes.
My daughter and I began by cutting several heart shapes out of construction paper.
To form the birds, I cut medium shaped hearts out of red paper for the bodies and then smaller hearts for the heads. The beaks were tiny orange hearts.
When my daughter starting cutting hers, she told me that she was going to make love butterflies instead of birds. I loved that idea & was excited to see her make them.
We both drew a tree branch onto a piece watercolor paper and then painted it with brown acrylic paint.
We used watercolors to paint around the tree trunk. We used different shades of blues and pinks to paint our backdrop.
We used white acrylic paint to add a layer of snow to the top of the branches.
When the paint dried, we glued our heart-shaped creatures to the painted backdrops. My daughter asked for my help cutting the butterflies body and then used a black marker to add details to her butterflies. Adorable!
