Great Lego Party Ideas for the Kids

Time has flown by so quickly. My little girl turned 5 last week and I can hardly believe it. A few months ago, I asked my daughter what kind of party she wanted. She asked for a Lego party and an art party. I loved the idea of having both. Both would be wonderfully interactive for my daughter and all of her guests.Great Lego themed birthday party ideas for kids. decorations, food and activities. Kid's

I have to admit, I love throwing parties, especially theme parties. I knew that my daughter and I would have fun with this one.

My little girl was eager to help with every bit of her party. The first thing that we tackled was our #5 decoration for our five year old. We cut a piece of construction paper into a block number five. My daughter and I cut different colors of construction paper into rectangles and squares and carefully glued them side by side onto the poster board to create the look of stacked Legos. I cut small rounded shapes and added them to the top edges of the number to form the Lego tops and then glued them into place.

We made a simple Lego decoration by painting old tea boxes.  I glued them all shut and added glue to all openings to ensure that they made perfect blocks. I painted them white first to prime them and let them dry. My daughter helped me paint them in each of the primary colors. To form the tops, we painted bottle caps in coordinating colors. When the paint dried, I used school glue to glue the blocks together and the bottle caps onto the tops.

We love OXO containers in our house. They are the best for storage. We used two containers to form a Lego man candy holder using foam sheets and markers. We filled both containers with M&Ms. We placed out another container filled with Skittles..

We found some cute Lego popcorn boxes that we used for treats and popcorn.

We filled one more container with Legos and hid random toys within. My daughter really enjoyed helping with this part. We hid a pine cone, a die, and little owl, a puzzle piece, a dinosaur, a my Little Pony, an alphabet block, a sheriff’s badge, a play fork, a toy dog and a Shopkins.

My daughter made a sign of her own to hang in the front window as well.

We set up a Lego station for the kids out on the porch. We bought some Lego compatible bases a while back to make a Lego table with. I thought these bases would be perfect for the kids to work on. We set up plastic bins full of Legos all around the table.

We make a Lego cake using loaf pans and square pans for the different sized Lego bricks. The Lego tops were made with cupcake bottoms.  We mixed our frosting with food coloring.

We also made a sugar cookie Legos. We bought a sugar cookie mix to make the dough. We rolled the dough out onto a cookie sheet and baked the full sheet. When the cookies cooled, we cut them into squares and rectangles and iced them in different colors and pressed M&M’s into them. My daughter iced most of the cookies. She loves baking.

We kept the Lego food theme going with this cheese and cracker platter. I cut the cheese into squares and rectangles and then used a straw to cut out small circles one at a time. To remove the cheese from the straw, I would just squeeze the straw right above the cheese and squeeze down until the cheese fell out. I gently pressed the small cheese circles into the squares and rectangles. We only had to do this for the top layer of cheese since the cheese was stacked.

My mother-in-law made these wonderful fruit skewers for the little kids using rock candy skewers instead of regular skewers to avoid any injuries with the sharp ends. I though that this was brillant.

We bought Lego plates, cups and napkins for the kid’s table.

We did not forget about the art portion of our Lego/art party. We rolled out a roll of butcher paper on a long folding table. I had a couple of plastic lazy susans that we used to put out markers, paints, brushes, colored pencils and crayons. We placed cookie cutters out too for a little creative inspiration.
