My little girl turned six this weekend. I can’t believe it is possible. She was very excited about her birthday this year, more so than ever before. This is her first year of school and she really wanted to invite her school friends to her birthday this year. So… her whole class was invited and just about her whole class accepted. So what is a mom to do when she has a guest list of close to 30 kids? She better make sure she has plenty of activities.

Printable Mirror Craft For Mom
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and what better gift to give then art from the heart.
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the best mom of them all. Well you do, of course. This is the perfect craft whether you are looking for a special gift for mom, grandma or anyone else that deserves a special Mother’s Day surprise.
Great Lego Party Ideas for the Kids
Time has flown by so quickly. My little girl turned 5 last week and I can hardly believe it. A few months ago, I asked my daughter what kind of party she wanted. She asked for a Lego party and an art party. I loved the idea of having both. Both would be wonderfully interactive for my daughter and all of her guests.

I have to admit, I love throwing parties, especially theme parties. I knew that my daughter and I would have fun with this one.

We wanted to do something special for my mother-in-law aka Nana for Mother’s Day. Mai & I had some different ideas of crafts we could make for her Nana for Mother’s Day, but then I came across the most fabulous idea on Pinterest. I could not find the original source to credit it, but found it on a greatest gift ideas list from Tips From A Typical Mom.
It was so beautiful, I knew I had to try it.
All you will need is a camera, wooden letters and a frame.
We only needed to buy the “N’ & the “A”. They were in natural wood & only cost a few dollars each. I bought the frame while I was there too.
I told Mai that we were going to make a special project for Nana & she was excited. I gave her the letters & asked her to do a number of different poses for me. She did a great job for her Nana. She hammed it up and lit up the camera with her dimply smile. We took about 50 pictures & picked the best 4 from the bunch.
I cropped them & changed them to black & white & arranged them in the frame.
The project came out beautifully.
My mother-in-law absolutely loved her gift.
Mother’s Day might be over, but this is a great gift idea for any occasion & you can change the lettering to spell any word that you would like. I have even seen this done holding words instead of letters to spell out a message.
Thank you as always for stopping by. Please follow us on Facebook as well.
Play-Doh Birthday

Picking a theme for Mai’s 3rd birthday was an easy decision. You have all heard me talk about our daughter’s love for Play-Doh. It only made sense to celebrate her special day with her favorite activity.
A Portrait And A Poem For My Birthday Girl
It all began with mornings so sick .
Then turned into a heartbeat, a flutter and kick.
This little life growing inside of me.
A boy or girl, which would it be?
When you came to me that winter’s night.
A new mother unsure and so full of fright.
Dirty diapers and nights with no sleep.
Often, I would cry and would weep.
With just one smile, one laugh, one kiss.
All tears were erased and replaced with pure bliss.
Crazy antics, milestones.
A heart full of memories overflown.
Time went by in a blink of an eye just like they said it would.
I would pause it all and slow time down, if only I could.
You have filled my life with happiness each and every day.
I love you more & more my dear. Have a Happy Birthday.
Countdown to 40 – Bucket List For The Second Half Of My Life
I talk often about how quickly time has flown by since the birth of my daughter. In 1 1/2 weeks she will be turning 2 1/2. It seems almost impossible. Almost stranger than that is on that very same day, I will be kissing my 30’s goodbye & turning 40. Ouch! This has been a hard realization for me. For me entering my 40’s finally signifies to me the end of my youth.
I look in the mirror & the face looking back is different than the one I remember. There are more lines. The grays from my head seemed to have spread & set up new residency in my eyebrows. My skin is now much looser and things that once were higher… well are not quite so high or perky anymore. It makes me sad, but is reality.
We all grow older. Our faces & bodies age, our looks fade, things begin to ache for no reason & you wake up in the morning feeling hung over even when you don’t drink. You become more forgetful. You become more forgetful. Oh & you tend to repeat yourself. I am certain I have told the same stories to my husband about 101 times. Sex symbols from your youth begin to grace the covers of AARP & even worse than that people now call you ma’am.
My first 40 years on this planet have had their ups & downs. In my life I have made a lot of mistakes. I have been good and been bad. I have had my heart broken and also broken a few hearts. I learned that soul mates are real & married mine. I have seen people I love die & I have brought life into this world. I have laughed, cried & felt utter joy.
I’ve been lucky enough to have seen many places & have done many things…
But there is still so much left I want to do. What things do I still want to accomplish, see or learn? It seems as if there is so much. My bucket list is a long one. Here are a few highlights of an otherwise long list…
1. Be there for my daughter’s wedding
2. Go to Cambodia
3. Learn another language
4. Hike Macchu Picchu
5.Write a children’s book
6. Hold my grandchild
7. Learn how to fence
8. Visit all the U.S states
9. Grow old with my husband
10. Go to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan
11. Run a marathon with my husband
12. Go to a masquerade ball
13. Learn to belly dance
14. Pay off our home
15. Get a tattoo that represents my mother
I have not lived a perfect life, but I have lived a pretty good one. I can’t wait to see what the next half will bring.
What’s on your bucket list? I would love to hear.
Turning 2 at The Zoo. A Birthday Party For My Little Monkey
Has it really been 2 years already? The past 24 months seem almost a blur. You are no longer a baby. I will no longer have to refer to your age in months. You are 2. I still can’t believe it.
One of the disadvantages of having a winter baby, is having to be confined to the indoors. I have a fairly good sized family. I would love to be able to include everyone, but unless I want to throw 3-4 separate parties, it just isn’t possible. Summer babies have it made, outdoor BBQ’s are ideal for large get-togethers. We wanted to keep it simple. We kept a small guest list, with only 16 attendees including the birthday girl.
Mai is an animal lover, so we chose a zoo themed party. Our party was a little last minute due to work, the holidays & an upcoming vacation. I still wanted to give her a great party ,but was limited on time & did not want to spend a ton. I think we pulled off a lovely party for our little tot, without too much stress, planning or breaking the bank.
Simple pink garland & a couple of paper lanterns were hung from the ceiling. I hand cut two number 2s out of heavy scrapbook paper & used a hole punch to dangle from the lanterns.
I loved these zebra print plates & napkins. They were perfect for our party, but they are over priced & come so few in a package. I mixed & matched the zebra party supplies with lesser priced pink plates & napkins. I alternated the napkin stacks in pink, then zebra prints.
This simple party prop was made out of old cardboard boxes & scrapbook paper.
The letters used to spell out Mai’s name were a wall hanging we received at my baby shower. They came in handy today.
This is a singing Happy Birthday elephant that we received on Mai’s 1st birthday. It was a perfect addition to our zoo themed day.
Our cheese, cracker & salami platter was supposed to be a lion, but looks a little more like a mouse. It looked differently in my head, but it was still cute & tasted good.
A tiger made out of taco cheese ball with Doritos & Blue tortilla chips.
A monkey cupcake cake
She is only interested in her ice cream & cake.
Who gave her Doritos?
Yes, more tissue paper.
Precious moments!
Happy Birthday, my sweet girl.

“Hi, my name is Kim and I’m addicted to Pinterest.”
It all started innocently enough. My husband was working. The baby was in bed. I received an invite to join from one of my friends and thought, sure why not. So, I browsed my friend’s pins… “How do you make a Guinness chicken pot pie?”, “That’s a cute hairdo”, “What the hell is cowboy lasagna?” Before long, I started pinning to my own boards… recipes, vacation spots, craft ideas. You get the idea. I have boards that just have pins with the color red or pins just showcasing the beauty of a hand. I just could not stop myself. I kept thinking “I can stop at anytime.” Who am I hurting?” “I’m just a social pinner”. Now, with over 200 boards, almost 20,000 pins and 9000 followers, I don’t see an end to my addiction in sight. http://www.pinterest.com/pfchico/boards/
Pinterest has become my new Google. If I am looking for a cheesecake recipe, I search Pinterest. If I am looking for rainy day activities for my 21 month daughter, I search Pinterest. I planned my daughter’s whole first birthday party using recipes and ideas from…guess where. Here are pictures from her snowman themed first birthday.

Rice Krispie snowmen. This was a variation of a few different Rice Krispie snowmen that I saw. Follow the basic Rice Krispie treat recipe & form into balls while still soft. Attach balls & accessories with icing. That hats were made with Oreos & Reeses peanut butter cup minis. The scarf is colored licorice whips. The buttons are made of M&M minis & the nose is just a sliver of an orange gum drop.
Next year’s party theme is ‘Turning 2 at the Zoo’. I am excited to get started.
