Paper mosaics are a simple and easy craft for all ages. This ice cream cone mosaic is a great project for the summer.
Summer is just a couple of weeks away. I love the summer for so many reasons, but one of my favorites is the ice cream cones. There is nothing better on a hot summer day. If you are looking for an easy and sweet craft for the season, this one is perfect.
What you will need:
Print out the printable template or draw an ice cream cone design of your own.
Cut out your ice cream cone pieces and set them aside.
Cut different colors of construction paper into small pieces to form your mosaic tiles. Construction paper is usually pretty thin, so you can choose to cut multiple pieces at a time to save some time.
My daughter loves to cut, so this is perfect for her. This is also a great way for kids to work on their scissor skills
For the cone, you can choose to use a solid color, make a mosaic pattern or criss-cross thin strips of construction paper. Use a glue stick to glue your pieces onto your cone. Do not worry if the paper hangs over the cut-out, you will trim it off later.
Trim the excess paper off by flipping over your cone and cutting along the edge.
Next, glue the paper pieces onto the ice cream scoops. For a truer mosaic look, leave a little space between paper pieces. Trim the excess overhang.
Assemble and glue your cone and scoops onto a separate piece of paper.
My daughter always tops her cones with sprinkles, so her ice cream craft had to be topped off with paper sprinkles too and a cherry.
Adorable! It looks good enough to eat.
