Earth Day Hand & Footprint Craft

Hand & Footprint Earth - Earth Day Craft

Mai & I have been working on learning our planets together for a little while now. I am proud & also a little embarrassed to say that she has a better grasp on our solar system than I do. The only ones that I can name are Saturn & of course the Earth.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd. For those of you that don’t know, Earth Day is an annual holiday that celebrates our home planet & also brings attention to the various ways we can help preserve our planet. To show our support Mai & I made a special Earth Day craft.

Hand & Footprint Earth

We used a piece of blue 12×12 scrapbook paper for the ocean portion of our Earth. I painted & stamped Mai’s hand & foot in green onto the blue to form our continents. If you make a mistake, which we did, you can always cut around the prints & place them where you would like on another piece of blue paper.

Using the same colored paint, I painted in more green for the land.

Let the paint dry & cut around into a circle.

Red Sox Foot Print & Sunday’s Best Link-Up #11

Red Sox Kid Footprint crafts

My husband is a superstitious man, especially when it comes to sports. He has worn the same lucky shirt to watch the Patriots play for 14 years. He believes in lucky charms. Last year Mai & I made daddy a Patriots Foot Print Craft. When the Pats ended up winning the Superbowl, he took it to be a lucky charm. With opening day for the Red Sox coming, he wanted to ensure another winning New England team victory, so we broke out our paint again & a cute pair of little feet.

We drew & cut out a pair of socks from red construction paper.

I painted my daughter’s little piggies in a darker shade of red.

IMG_9655

Press both painted feet into the socks. Mommy made a little mistake the first time & printed on the wrong side. So we flipped our sock over & printed on the other side as well.IMG_9656

Paint in white lines to separate the 2 socks & paint in heels & lines for the top of the socks.

Footprint Easter Bunny Craft

Foot print Easter Bunny craft I just never get sick of my daughter’s cute little piggies. There is just something so cute about baby feet. With time racing by, she is quickly becoming less of a baby & more of a little girl. Mommy needs to preserve all these baby moments while I can. With Easter nearing, I thought it time for our first Easter craft.

What you will need:

Poster board

Plain white paper

Paint

Paint brush

Markers

Cotton Balls

Glue

Paper plate

Directions:

Spread paint on a paper plate.

015

Dip your child’s feet in the paint.

019

Press the paint covered foot on a piece of paper. Repeat with the other foot & let dry. Cut out the feet prints.

020

Sketch out your bunny around the baby’s feet, using the feet as bunny feet

110

Draw some egg shapes on a piece of paper & have your child paint on it.

037

Cut out the eggs & set aside.

109

Glue the eggs to the chest where the hands would be holding them.

111

Cut out two oval shapes as hands & glue them down over the eggs to make it appear as if they are holding them. Draw lines on the paws.

IMG_20140309_094254882

Paint/color your bunny’s ears, eyes, nose & tummy. Outline the mouth & whiskers.

114

115

Squeeze glue on to the parts that you want fluffy, like the bunny ears.

117

Spread cotton balls out across the glue.

118

My daughter loves gluing. This is a part that you can do together.

125

We chose to cut our bunny shape out & hang it on the refrigerator with magnets.

IMG_20140309_095538214

We also made a smaller one with floppy ears. This looks a little more like a floppy earred dog than a bunny, but I still think it came out pretty cute.

033

My daughter got a real kick out of making the paint foot prints. We made several set of foot prints because she thought it was so funny. We hung our craft on the refrigerator. Before bed this evening Mai ran up to it & said “Goodnight Bunny”. She is so cute.

Mommy & Me Thanksgiving Crafts

hand & foot print turkey craft for kids - Thankgiving

I think every parent wants & hopes that their children will show interest in things that they are passionate about. Of course they will discover their own talents and passions, but to be able to have something to share and to connect to them with would be amazing. For my husband, who is a marathon runner, he has aspirations of Mai running races with him someday. He also loves to golf. He bought Mai her first toy golf set when she was just starting to walk.

Excuse me, playing through.
Excuse me, playing through.

Since the day my daughter was born, I have been excited for the day that we would be able to do arts & craft projects together. I think I bought her, her first box of crayons before she could even hold one. I started her on finger paints before she turned one. I have been so hopeful that she would love art as much as I do. She likes to color and use her finger paints and she loves it when mommy draws pictures for her. She will often give me special requests by handing me her crayon and shouting “horse” or making an elephant sound. God, is she cute.

With the holidays coming, I have been daydreaming of decorating sugar cookies and making gingerbread houses but since Thanksgiving is only a couple of weeks away, I thought we could do a Thanksgiving Day craft favorite. Who hasn’t made the classic hand turkey as a child? I think most of us, probably have. I wanted to make a special turkey that joined our two hands together. Unfortunately, it is hard to explain to a nearly 2 year old toddler, that she can’t wiggle her hand around in the paint to make a mommy/daughter hand turkey.

050

052

Instead, Mai finger painted with her Cool Whip paints and had fun on her own, but did let mommy take a footprint.

054

I took her foot print and added it to my hand. The foot would be the wing to my  hand’s turkey’s body.056

I added the feet & wattle using paint & here is mommy & Mai’s hand & foot turkey.

0601

Here is another cute and easy idea.

What you will need…

Styrofoam flower cone

Pipe cleaners in assorted colors

Googly eyes

Glue

Take the styrofoam cone and  cut it to your desired height.  I carved around the top also to give the appearance of a head.

063

Bend the pipe cleaners in half to use as the feathers.

067

Poke & insert folded pipe cleaners into the back of the styrofoam to form feathers.

070

Use an orange or yellow pipe cleaner & cut  into small pieces to use for the feet & beak. Knot a red pipe cleaner to use as the turkey wattle. Glue on the googly eyes and done.

Kids love pipe cleaners.

This is an easy project for kids of all ages.
