Say Yes To One More Book by Kim Uliana

‘Say Yes To One More Book’ by Kim Uliana

I have had a lot of bad luck in the past few years with people plagiarizing my poems and quotes. My most popular and copied poem was and still is “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, It does not matter if I’m short or tall.’

This one is now a close second. It saddens me, but at the same time it is wonderful that the words resonate with so many people.

This is one of my favorite poems and it all still rings true to me today. My little girl is growing more independent every day. I am savoring all of these moments and reminding myself

to always…

Say yes to one more book,

one more hug,

one more kiss tonight.

Tuck them in,

snuggle them &

ease all of their frights.

Cause one day, you will try to tuck

them in & they’ll be grown.

They will smile & say to you

they can do it on their own.

An Ode To PMS & Sunday’s Best Link-Up #15

i-am-pms-ing-unless-you-have-chocolate-wine-or-bradley-cooper-with-you-leave-me-alone-e2b13Today I cried. I don’t know why.

I yelled at my husband just for breathing..

My pants don’t fit. I’ve got a zit.

This whole day has me seething…

I have an ache in my head. I want my bed.

Someone get me a pint of Ben & Jerry’s

Quick get me a spoon. I hope this ends soon.

Before my husband leaves & remarries…

Toppled over in pain. This is insane.

I think that I am going to hurl…

Please cramps go away. Come back another day.

Oh how I hate being a girl.

The Mommy Wars (A Poem)

i-am-not-judging-you-i-am-just-telling-you-everything-that-you-are-doing-wrong-af58b

“So you are just a stay at home mom?” “Are you ever going back to work?”

Questions that are meant as accusations are asked with a judging smirk

“Working mom” is uttered as if it were a dirty phrase

What kind of mother would leave their child at this early stage?

A mother nursing in public makes people turn away their heads

While others look in disgust at a baby that is formula fed

Dr. Spock, The Ferber Method or channeling Dr. Sears

Women trying all they can to get through these formidable years

Courage of the keyboard comes out at home at night

With social media perpetuating the mommy wars fight

From disciplining your child to what you’re serving on their plate

The opinions flung out towards you, are full of judgment & of hate

Mother against mother, each thinking they are better than the rest

Just because it is your way does not mean that it’s the best.

You raise your child your way & I will raise my child mine

When it is all said & done, I bet they’ll both turn out just fine

Some Days I’m A Bad Mom

I keep my calm & don’t yell, even when we’re in a dispute

Some days I’m a lazy mom – I stop at Mickey D’s

I talk on the phone & sit around & park you in front of the tv

Some days I’m the funny mom – I am silly when I talk

You laugh at me when I tell jokes that begin with Knock Knock

Some days I’m the mean mom – I can’t help but scream & shout

You look at me with tears in your eyes when I send you to time out

Some days I’m a nurturing mom – I dry your every tear

I hold you close & comfort you & let you know that I am near

Some days I am the jealous mom – Tonight you like daddy more

I smile with a tinge of envy at the two that I most adore

Some days I am a patient mom – I answer every “Why?”

I take my time & carefully give you a well thought out reply

Some days I’m the frightened mom – I am scared almost every day

I ask God to please watch over you each & every night while I pray

Some days I’m the know-it-all & some I don’t know what to do

I am many different kinds of mother & all of them love you

A Portrait And A Poem For My Birthday Girl

IMG_20150106_230309533

It all began with mornings so sick .

Then turned into a heartbeat, a flutter and kick.

This little life growing inside of me.

A boy or girl, which would it be?

When you came to me that winter’s night.

A new mother unsure and so full of fright.

Dirty diapers  and nights with no sleep.

Often, I would cry and would weep.

With just one smile, one laugh, one kiss.

All tears were erased and replaced with pure bliss.

Crazy antics, milestones.

A heart full of memories overflown.

Time went by in a blink of an eye just like they said it would.

I would pause it all and slow time down, if only I could.

You have filled my life with happiness each and every day.

I love you more & more my dear. Have a Happy Birthday.
