CD Printed Fall Tree

We did a little bit of cleaning last week and stumbled across a ton of old scratched DVDs & CDs that do not play anymore. Since I hate throwing anything away, I was determined to make use of them. CDs are wonderful for a variety of crafts, but my favorite use for them is for making simple printmaking projects. These CD printed fall trees are quick, easy and perfect for the fall.

Tin Foil Snowflake Prints

Paul Klee Inspired Block Printing

Here is a fun printmaking project inspired by artist Paul Klee and his painting Castle and Sun.

Do your kids watch Little Einsteins? My little girl loves them and was watching them the other day. If you do watch them, you know that they feature an artist and a composer each episode. Paul Klee was the artist in this episode.  My daughter wants to know everything and anything that she can about the great artists. Klee was one that we have not covered yet, so she, of course, wanted to know more about him. We read a little about him online and then looked over his collection of works. Castle and Sun caught our eye. The combination of colors and shapes reminded us of building blocks. I thought that it would be fun to try stamping with the building blocks and create our own Paul Klee inspired artwork.

Wax Paper Leaf Prints

These wax paper leaf prints combine two things that we love, nature and printmaking.

Leaves are fantastic for printmaking. There are so many shapes and sizes to choose from and the veins in the leaves create such lovely lines. We are lucky enough to live in a wooded area, surrounded by such beautiful nature.  We have unlimited art inspiration and free craft materials at our fingertips. My daughter and I walked around our yard and gathered different sizes and shapes of leaves for our printmaking project. We looked for interesting shapes with more prominent veins, as they make the best prints. Once we gathered all of our supplies, we were ready to make our wax paper leaf prints. Here’s how.
