Star Wars Tie Interceptor With Recyclables

Star Wars Tie Interceptor Craft made out of paper bowls & recyclables

Star Wars mania has hit my house. The premiere of the new movie is less than a week away and I can’t wait. My husband & I are already planning our Star Wars date night. My daughter is not that much into Star Wars yet, but she is still always willing to help me with a craft, no matter what it may be.

Tie Interceptor

What you will need:

2 Paper bowls

2 sections of egg carton cups

2 sections of egg carton pointed

2 long narrow pieces of cardboard about 14″ long

Gray or silver paint

Black & Silver markers

Glue gun

Wooden skewer

Directions:

Cut your egg carton & cardboard pieces.

IMG_2732

Glue the two paper bowls together with the wooden skewer centered in the middle.

IMG_2820

Paint all of your pieces. I removed the skewer so that my daughter could paint & not poke herself.  (Notice her festive attire. She has been in her holiday dress the whole weekend. She loves being Mrs. Claus.)

IMG_2737 IMG_2738

Let all the pieces dry. Draw the windows of interceptor with black & silver markers in the center of the bowl.

IMG_2741

I slid the skewer back through & the cut two slits into the egg carton pieces &  slid it through. Use a glue gun to secure the egg carton in place & do this to the opposite end as well.

IMG_2807

Next glue the pointed egg carton end to the center of the cardboard pieces. Bend the cardboard on both ends at about 5″ in. Use a bead of glue in the crease to keep the bend formed.

IMG_2808

Squeeze glue into the hole at the top of the pointed egg carton section. Add glue to the top of the section and onto the skewer.

IMG_2809

Let the glue dry.

My daughter does not like Star Wars, but did still have fun flying our new interceptor around.

20 Character Inspired Kid’s Crafts

20 Character Inspired Kid's Crafts Inspired by Disney, Pixar, Dr. Suess & more...

A few weeks ago we took our daughter to the movies to see ‘Inside Out’. I cried, my daughter laughed & we all left the movie happy. After the movie, my daughter insisted that we all call her Joy after the main character.  She wanted to wear green every day & asked people what they thought of her blue hair. This is a common occurrence in our house. Her character changes from week to week. She has been Hello Kitty, Elsa & other assorted characters and animals. Not only does she enjoy pretending to be them, she loves making crafts that are inspired by them. We have made many crafts over the years & have stumbled across quite a few amazing ones as well. Here are some of our favorites.

‘Inside Out’ Paper Plate Masks

Yesterday we took our daughter to the movies to see ‘Inside Out’. She had been asking us to go all week & finally broke us down. She was so excited all morning & could hardly wait until we got there.

I knew that our daughter would love it, but I had heard mixed reviews & was not sure how I would feel about it. As it turns out, I loved it too. It was full of emotion, which made sense since all of the characters were actual emotions, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger & Disgust all played a part. I found myself crying through much of the movie. My husband even got a little choked up during it.

When we were leaving Mai asked us if we could go again tomorrow. “Maybe not tomorrow, baby.”

Joy was her favorite character. When we got home she wanted to change into a green dress because Joy wore a green dress. “I wish I had blue hair.” she told me. She started calling me Disgust & calling her daddy Anger. “Disgust, can I have some more juice please?” Even our dog Duke became a part of it. He was Sadness. All she could talk about the rest of the day was the movie. It seemed only fitting that we made a craft inspired by it.

Since she wanted us all to play our parts so badly, I thought that masks would be the most fun.

We painted 5 paper plates, one in the color of each character. We painted peach for Joy, blue for Sadness, green for Disgust, purple for Fear & red for Anger. We let them dry.

IMG_4085

We did Sadness first.

I cut white ovals out of construction paper to make the eyes. I drew in eyeballs with magic markers & then glued the eyes into place.

IMG_4089

I used another paper plate as a template & cut the hair out of construction paper.

IMG_4088

I drew in eyebrows & then formed Sadness’ glasses out of pipe cleaners & glued them into place.

IMG_4090

We finished off our mask by drawing in the nose & mouth & I used a lighter shade of blue paint to paint in the turtle neck of her sweater. I used blue magic marker to add the sweater’s details. I added two craft sticks to the back for the mask’s handle.

We finished off the rest of our cast of characters in the same fashion using construction paper & magic markers.

‘The Story Of Us’ Told With Movie Titles

              1524794_10202125038800735_153085905_n

‘The Story of Us’ told in Movie Titles.

I was a ‘Single White Female’ who was sick of ‘Bad Boys’ that were ‘Clueless’ about how to treat a ‘Pretty Woman’.  I went to a ‘House Party’ and there I met ‘The Last Boy Scout’. I could ‘Say Anything’ to him. It was ‘Serendipity’. He gave me ‘The Butterfly Effect’ in my stomach.  It was ‘An Affair to Remember’. It was ‘Love Actually’. After about ‘9 ½ Weeks’, he took me home to ‘Meet the Parents’. On ‘Valentine’s Day’, he took me to the ‘Casino’ & gave me ‘The Rock’. I ‘Accepted’.  With my ‘Bridesmaids’ & some ‘Goodfellas’ standing up with us, we celebrated ‘One Fine Day’ ‘It’s A Wonderful Life‘ is what we said, while on our ‘European Vacation’ ‘In Bruges’. Then, I found out that I was ‘Knocked Up’. Soon I was ‘Big’ & people would point & say ‘She’s Having a Baby’. Before I knew it, it was my ‘Due Date’. I was so excited to hold ‘My Girl’.  All she did was ‘Scream’. I wondered if ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ My husband was away at the ‘Police Academy’ I was ‘Dazed & Confused’ without him. When him & the other ‘Super Troopers’ graduated, it was time for him to be ‘The Family Man’. Together, we’re ‘Bringing Up Baby’ & it is ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ This is ‘As Good As It Gets’. I can’t wait to see what ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ brings.

This Sick Mom’s List of Favorite Movies

FavoriteMovies.jpg

When I am sick & in bed there are only two things I like to do, sleep & watch movies. I love movies. We have a large collection of them. I have so many favorites, it is sometimes difficult to know which one’s to pick. As I look through our collection of films trying to choose one, it got me thinking of my favorite movies of all time. In my sick haze I have compiled a list of some of my top picks. Incidentally, the movie I chose to watch as I type this in bed, is Adam Sandler’s ‘Bed Time Stories’. It did not make any of my lists but it is awfully cute.

Favorite Romantic Comedies

1. The Princess Bride  – This is actually my all time favorite movie. It has been ever since I a saw it in the movie theater when it first released in 1987.

2. Say Anything

3. 50 First Dates

Favorite Dark Comedies

1. In Bruges – If you have not seen this Colin Farrell movie about a hit man in hiding in Bruges, Belgium. It is a must see. My husband & I liked this so much we actually visited Bruges just to see all the landmarks in the film.
2. War of the Roses
3. Raising Arizona

Favorite Musicals

1. Grease – I love musicals but Grease tops the list with it’s good girl meets bad boy story line & catchy sound track.
2. My Fair Lady
3. Chicago

Favorite Feel Good Movies

1. August Rush – This has quickly become one of my new all time favorites. This is a beautiful story of an orphan who uses his musical prodigy to find his parents. I tear up every time.                               2. Legally Blond

3. Matilda

Favorite Dramas

1. Legends of the Fall – I love this movie about 3 brothers all in love with the same woman. My husband and I if we had a boy were going to name him Tristan, which was Brad Pitt’s character’s name in this movie.
2. Braveheart
3. The Departed

Favorite Comedies

1. Caddy Shack  – It was almost impossible to pick my favorite comedies because I have so many. There are so many great ones out there that I could quote & requote a million times but Caddy Shack definitely takes my top spot.

2. Tommy Boy

3. Billy Madison

Favorite Sci-Fi

1. Star Wars series  – I love Star Wars. I really do. I own them all.

2. ET

3. Krull – It is super cheesy & old. The special effects are terrible but I still love this movie. I don’t care.

Favorite Action Movies

1. The Professional

2. Die Hard

3. Taken

Favorite Romantic Dramas

1. Titantic – The only movie that I have ever gone to the theater multiple times to see.
2. The Bridges of Madison County
3. The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Favorite Horror/Thrillers

1. The Shining – “All work & no play make Jack a dull boy.”
2. Scream
3. Identity

Favorite Fantasy Movies

1. All of the Harry Potter series – I love all things Harry Potter. The books are also included in my list of favorite books.
2. Big Fish
3. Stardust

Favorite Animated Films

1. The Little Mermaid – I think it is all about the music for me in this one. I know every song by heart. My girlfriend & I auditioned for a high school talent show with ‘Part of Your World’
2. Despicable Me
3. Brave

Favorite Classics

1. Gone With the Wind – I just watched this recently on Netflix & it is just as fantastic as I remember.

2. Sabrina

3. An Affair to Remember

Favorite Movies That I Am A Little Embarrassed About

1. The House Bunny – Ok, so Anna Farris plays a Playboy bunny who becomes a failing sorority’s house mother. It is silly & dumb but oh my god is it funny.
2. Romy & Michelle
3. Bring it On

These are just my personal favorites and opinions. They by no means represent the top movies according to the masses. If you do not see your favorites add them in the comments. I would love to hear your thoughts.
