Build A Necklace Activity

Jewelry craft activity - Make a necklace & earrings out of craft gems . Kid's arts & crafts

It thrills me that my daughter did not fall very far from the ol’ tree. She is so much like me in her love for arts & crafts and it is wonderful that it is something that we are able to do together. I love her creativity. It is wonderful to watch her work. The other day she was crafting on her own & grabbed some glitter and gemstones. When she was done, she handed me her finished project and told her that she had made it for me. It was so pretty & sparkly.

She explained that it was two dolphins in love under a sunset. Awwww. It was so sweet. I put it on my nightstand, but when I picked it up to look at it again in the morning, I held it in the other direction and it looked like something different to me.

It gave me an idea for a quick activity that I thought she might like. I quickly cut out a paper bust and glued it to another piece of paper. I drew a ring around the neck with a magic marker & then some lines coming from the ears.

I gave my daughter the bag of gems and she placed the gems in place to form a necklace & earrings. You can choose to add hair and a face too, but for us, we just kept building jewelry.

Polymer Clay Bangle Bracelets

Easy to make clay bangle bracelet craft for kids . Polymer arts & crafts - jewelry

My daughter is truly a girly girl. Every day she wears a tutu. She even wears one over her pajamas. She loves tiaras, headbands & jewelry. A few weeks back we made some necklaces out of handmade clay pendants. They were fun to make & my munchkin loved them. Last week we made some bangle bracelets to go with them.

We started with a chunk of polymer clay in the color of our choosing. We rolled out the clay into a thin strip. We chose other colors that we wanted to blend in & rolled them out too and then rolled all the strips together. Roll & blend as much as you like to create the desired pattern. Once you have achieved the look that you like, join your two ends to form a circle. Use your eye or measure to decide how big of a ring you need to make to fit.

Bake the bracelets according to package directions. These are so fun & easy to make. This is perfect for jewelry lovers of all ages.

We usually just make our own salt dough clay, but I had been curious about polymer clay for a while & wanted to experiment with it. The polymer was so easy to work with & was fun to work with as well.

I didn’t really know what I wanted to make, but just started breaking off chunks &  rolling them into balls & long strips. I played with the long rolled strips a little & came up with something cute, fun & easy to make.

Roll & Wrapped Clay Pendants

To form a flower-like creation, break off chunks from a few different colors of clay. Roll them lightly together into a ball & then roll out with your fingers to make a long thin rope-like strip.

Roll in at one end a couple of times to form a small spiral. Then loosely wrap & loop around & under the spiral.

After you have reached your desired size & shape, roll out a strip of green clay & form loops to form leaves.IMG_8226 IMG_8227

Follow package directions to bake your pendants. When they are hardened & cooled, run a craft string through one of the loops.  You may tie off at the ends or attach a clasp to the string. These were so fun to make. I couldn’t stop making them.

Button Threading Activity & Craft

Stringing buttons for teaching fine motor skills & patterns

My daughter & I have always enjoyed crafting and drawing together, but ever since we have moved into our new house & we have a craft room of our very own, she downright loves it.

Kid's Play & Art Room Display Wall

With all of our supplies organized in shelves & bins finally and not just stuffed into a box, she has more freedom to make projects of her own. The other day, she grabbed a container full of buttons and some pipe cleaners & strung up a necklace. She did it again the next day, but that time with pasta. It was a wonderful thing to watch her so engaged. Sometimes, she strung up the buttons & pasta at random, other times she formed patterns.

Thread Button Necklaces For A Great Fine Motor Skill Activity & For Dress Up Play

Last night she wanted to make button necklaces again. She asked me to cut out a heart to put in the middle of them for Valentine’s Day.

So, for the 3rd day in a row, my daughter made button necklaces. Mai strung up her necklaces & I made one too & per her request cut foam hearts to dangle from her new jewelry.

You will need to use two pipe cleaners twisted together to form a necklace. The heart was cut out of a piece of foam & strung up with a piece of yarn.

Pasta & Pipe Cleaner Crafts

The other day my daughter was digging through a chest of drawers and came across a bamboo necklace that I bought when we were in the Bahamas. The necklace was just a simple beaded necklace on craft wire. My daughter was having a great time sliding the bamboo beads back & forth. She wanted to break it open and play with the beads, but I did not want to ruin my necklace. Instead we had another idea.

The beads on the necklace reminded me of Ditalini pasta. We had a couple of boxes of it to spare, so we decided to make bracelets with our Ditalini.

First we dyed our pasta by tossing it a cup at a time into a plastic baggie with food coloring. Spread out the pasta on a paper towel & let it dry.

(For a more rustic look, toss all your beads together while wet & try baking your beads for 30 minutes at 275-300 degrees. It will change the color & shape of the bead for a rougher look.)

Mai saw all the pasta laid out to dry and got excited. “Mama, we do project.” We do love our projects. Once the food coloring dried, my daughter was ready to dive in. We poured all the pasta beads into a shoe box & mixed them up. Mai had a little difficulty using string to make our bracelets, so we pipe cleaners instead. This worked much better. She was able to string them up with ease. This is a great activity for hand-eye coordination & Mai really enjoyed this.

Measure the pipe cleaner around the wrist to find the desired size for you bracelet. Snip the pipe cleaner about an inch longer than you need it.

Twist the two ends together tightly & slide the bead around the newly joined section.

We made one more bead craft before our night was done. The colored pasta is not just for crafting, it also great for sensory boxes, color sorting and counting games.
