‘What Pet Should I Get’ Inspired Footprint Crafts

What Pet SHould I Get Inspired Footprint Crafts - Dr. Seuss crafts

My daughter loves books. She can not read yet, but she does know most of her books by heart. She can just as easily recite them to me, as have me read them to her. She has quite a long list of favorites & many of those favorites are Dr. Seuss books. When I heard that they discovered & released a new Dr. Seuss book I was so excited. I ordered one right away.

The day that I received it, I waited until my daughter’s bedtime before reading it. It did not disappoint.  Mai adored it just as she did with the books before it. That evening she made me read it 3 times.

We had been doing a lot of footprint crafts lately. We made animals from A – Z, some Halloween inspired feet & we experimented with famous works of art. We have made so many that I have started seeing feet everywhere. As I was reading Jay & Kay’s adventures in the pet store to my daughter for the 100th time the other night, I actually started seeing some of the creatures as footprint art in my head. I might have a problem.

I think you already know where I am going with this. Here are a few footprint crafts inspired by the book.

Seuss Inspired Cat

I painted my daughter’s foot in yellow & pressed it onto a piece of paper. I used the same paint to paint in a tail & ears & the added a red bow around its neck. I dabbed on two spots of white for the eyes & then let everything dry. I used a Sharpie to draw in the lines for the details.

Seuss Inspired Dog

These are all pretty similarly made. The same as above, I painted my daughter’s foot in brown & pressed it onto a piece of paper. I painted in a tail & his snout. I dabbed on one eye & painted in a collar. I let it dry and then drew in the finishing details.

Seuss Inspired Bird

I painted my daughter’s heel in yellow and the rest of her foot in green & then pressed it onto a piece of paper. I painted in a beak with the yellow & head feathers in green. I let it dry & drew in the rest of the details.

From what I understand there are plans to release more books from this collection of works that they have found. I cannot wait.

Footprint Animal Crafts A-Z Featuring U, V & W

Footprint Crafts from A - Z featuring U, V & W

Last night we tackled U, V & W in our footprint animal crafts from A-Z. That leaves us with only 3 more letters. These last few letters leave us with very few options. We opted to make a mythical animal for our U because of our lack of choices. Mai wanted a rainbow colored unicorn, so that is what we did. Here is how.

U is for Unicorn

Start by painting your child’s foot in the colors of the rainbow.

IMG_7659

Press the painted foot onto a piece of paper.

IMG_7666

Paint in a rainbow mane, ears & the unicorn’s horn.

IMG_7667

Paint in the tail & legs. I actually messed up on the legs. Here is a little trick if you mess up on one of these crafts & don’t want to start over. Cut around the project, leaving out the error & glue it down to a piece of paper in the same color.

IMG_7669

Paint or draw in the face with markers to finish it off.

IMG_7662

Paint in the hind feathers on the side.

IMG_7670

W is for Walrus

Paint your child’s foot in brown & press onto a piece of paper.

IMG_7179

Paint in the ears & tail in gray.

IMG_7182

Footprint Animals From A-Z Featuring L, M & N

Footprint Crafts from L - N

We are now more than halfway done with our footprint animal crafts from A – Z. It has been a fun project for Mai & I. She gets a kick out of seeing me turn her little feet into artwork & has learned about a few new animals. Last night our crafts covered the letters L, M & N.  Our first one was L & while we tossed around a few different animals that began with L, we went with a lion. Here’s how.

Footprint Lion Craft

Paint your child’s foot mostly in yellow. Paint a lighter shade of yellow or white in a T-shape as shown. Press the foot onto a piece of paper.

IMG_6941 IMG_6943

Paint the lion’s mane around the heel & a pair of ears on top. Paint in the tail.

IMG_6947 IMG_6948

Footprint Crafts C – E

Footprint Cow - Footprint Crafts from A to Z - C is for cow

We are continuing with our footprint crafts A-Z. Last night we were at letter C. We named off a few words that started with the “C” & chose to make a cow craft.

As always we painted my daughter’s cute little foot. We painted it white with black spots & then pressed it onto a piece of green construction paper.

IMG_6028

I realized that I had forgotten to make the snout & mouth portion in peach, so I painted the heel & then painted in ears.

IMG_6035

I painted in the nostrils & mouth.

IMG_6036

We finished off our cute little cow by adding in horns & eyes.

When we finished, Mai held up her other foot & asked me to paint that one too, so we moved on to letter “D”.

D is for dolphin. For this craft, paint the foot in gray & then out line the side of your foot in white for the belly. Add in the fins & tail and give your dolphin an eye. Paint in waves & splashes for your background.

Footprint Dolphin Craft - Footprint Crafts A-Z D is for dolphin

We were feeling ambitious & pushed for one more craft. E is for elk. This is a simple footprint craft. Paint your child’s foot brown, press it into a piece of paper. Paint in ears, antlers, eyes & the mouth and nose.

Footprint Volcano Craft

Footprint Volcano Craft

We took our daughter to see the movie ‘Inside Out’ when it first came out. We loved the movie. It was filled with so much emotion. Tears streamed down my face for a good portion of the movie. The funny thing is my tears began before the movie even started. There was a lovely musical short in the beginning of the movie about a lonely volcano. I became slightly obsessed with the song in the short & have been playing it over & over again.

Mai has even started telling me “I lava you.”

Last night we were singing the song & she insisted that we had to make a volcano craft out of her feet. As I have told you before she really loves the foot crafts. Here is how we made our footprint volcano.

Paint your child’s foot mostly brown with red & yellow at the heel. Press it into a piece of paper & let it dry.

IMG_5465

IMG_5464

Use red magic markers to draw in the dripping & spattering lava.

IMG_5466

Use markers or crayons to form the smoke.

IMG_5468

Draw an island around your volcano.

Footprint Grasshopper Craft

Footprint Grasshopper Craft

What is it about little feet that make them so adorable? I have always loved baby feet. I feel likewise about toddler feet too. That is why footprint crafts are my favorite. I just can’t get enough of them & my daughter loves to make them too. We have quite the collection of footprint art hanging up around our home. Last night we were talking about grasshoppers & crickets, which of course ended with us having to make a grasshopper craft.

Paint your  child’s foot in green & press onto a piece of paper. Let it dry. Use paint or magic marker to draw in an eye & antennae onto the heel.

IMG_4466

Draw or paint in the legs & details for the body.

IMG_4467

We used chalk to highlight the segments.

IMG_4468

Draw or paint in a branch or leaves for a final touch.

IMG_4472

This will make a great addition to our growing collection of footprint crafts.

Footprint Easter Bunny Craft

Foot print Easter Bunny craft I just never get sick of my daughter’s cute little piggies. There is just something so cute about baby feet. With time racing by, she is quickly becoming less of a baby & more of a little girl. Mommy needs to preserve all these baby moments while I can. With Easter nearing, I thought it time for our first Easter craft.

What you will need:

Poster board

Plain white paper

Paint

Paint brush

Markers

Cotton Balls

Glue

Paper plate

Directions:

Spread paint on a paper plate.

015

Dip your child’s feet in the paint.

019

Press the paint covered foot on a piece of paper. Repeat with the other foot & let dry. Cut out the feet prints.

020

Sketch out your bunny around the baby’s feet, using the feet as bunny feet

110

Draw some egg shapes on a piece of paper & have your child paint on it.

037

Cut out the eggs & set aside.

109

Glue the eggs to the chest where the hands would be holding them.

111

Cut out two oval shapes as hands & glue them down over the eggs to make it appear as if they are holding them. Draw lines on the paws.

IMG_20140309_094254882

Paint/color your bunny’s ears, eyes, nose & tummy. Outline the mouth & whiskers.

114

115

Squeeze glue on to the parts that you want fluffy, like the bunny ears.

117

Spread cotton balls out across the glue.

118

My daughter loves gluing. This is a part that you can do together.

125

IMG_20140309_093916566

We chose to cut our bunny shape out & hang it on the refrigerator with magnets.

IMG_20140309_095538214

We also made a smaller one with floppy ears. This looks a little more like a floppy earred dog than a bunny, but I still think it came out pretty cute.

033

My daughter got a real kick out of making the paint foot prints. We made several set of foot prints because she thought it was so funny. We hung our craft on the refrigerator. Before bed this evening Mai ran up to it & said “Goodnight Bunny”. She is so cute.

30 Farm Animal Crafts & Activities

It has been a busy year and we have not been posting nearly as much as we would have liked. We are ready and hoping to get back into the crafting swing of things. Last year was a big year for us with the release of our first children’s book, ‘Farmer Pete Has Stinky Feet.’ We are getting ready to print our second book and couldn’t be more excited. But, before that hits the presses, we wanted to share with you a collection of fun farm animal crafts, in honor of our favorite stinky farmer.
