My daughter and I went shopping the other day and found that the Christmas decor was already in full force. She was wide-eyed and excited to see all of the holiday items displayed. “Look mama, Christmas.” We saw a pretty sparkly wreath in the store that caught her eye. She oohed and aahed over it.

I asked her if she would like to make her own sparkly wreath when we got home and of course she did.
I know what you all are thinking. We have not even made it through Halloween yet, why are we already sharing Christmas crafts. Well, our first official snowfall just hit us in October. Our fireplace was lit for the first time this season and it was accompanied by hot cocoa with marshmallows.
While digging out our marshmallows, I found an old bag of jumbo marshmallows which were just too big and soft to resist. Marshmallows make wonderful paint stamps and are just fun to paint with because of their soft, bouncy texture.
I hope that everybody had a Happy Easter. If you are anything like us, you probably filled your children’s Easter baskets and your faces, maybe had an Easter egg hunt or two & colored a whole lot of Easter eggs with the kids. With all of the eggs being made over the holidays, you were probably left with quite a few empty egg cartons. But, don’t toss out those old cartons just yet. My daughter is getting into the Easter spirit. We made some Easter printables a couple of weeks ago & she loved coloring & painting them, especially the eggs. She has been drawing up a storm lately & her main subject has been Easter eggs.
A funny thing happened at my daughter’s preschool last week. One of the teachers mentioned to me that my daughter talks to her about all of the crafts that we do at home. She said to me in a very puzzled voice that my daughter was telling her about Kandinsky. This made me smile. I gave her a little lesson on Kandinsky last month and then did an art project with her inspired by his works. She remembered it well and when she sees circles now, she observes that they look like a Kandinsky. We did the same with Jackson Pollock last month & this weekend we learned about one of my personal favorites, Andy Warhol.
It is almost here. Christmas is just a few days away. It has been a fun holiday season with our daughter. We have enjoyed singing carols together & snuggling up and watching Elf & the Grinch. Our daughter has also discovered just how much she loves candy canes. We have been to many Christmas parties this season & have met with Santa 4 times and each time she has accumulated a few candy canes. Candy canes are a great treats & they also make lovely and festive crafts.
There are only two more weeks until we ring in another year. New Year’s has changed a lot for us ever since having our daughter. New Year’s Eve is a great time to reflect on all the wonderful memories that we have made throughout the year. It is also a wonderful time to build traditions & make new memories. It seems as if the holidays fly by quicker & quicker each year. Next week is Christmas & then the following week we will be ringing in the new year. Not long after we clean up our New Year’s confetti, we will be celebrating another birthday for our little girl. She turns 4 in a few weeks & I cannot believe how quickly she has grown.
I would love to be able to keep her small forever. I know that this will not happen, but I can at least preserve some of her tiny cuteness while I still can. This is why I love hand & footprint crafts. It is fun to compare each new print with older ones just to see how much she has grown.
With 2016 fast approaching, I wanted to make a holiday keepsake to kick off the new year.
New Year’s Hand Print Craft
This was a simple and fun project.
Trace your child’s hand or have them trace their own.
Cut out a few different colored hands using the tracing.
Fan the hands out & glue them together. Cut out a handle for your hand clapper & glue underneath the hands.
Cut out confetti & streamers or let your child if they are able to use scissors. We have been working on our cutting skills a lot lately, so Mai couldn’t wait to help me cut the confetti.
Glue the confetti & streamers into place.
Don’t forget to label your clappers with your child’s name & the date.

This holiday season with our daughter has been a fun one. She has a greater appreciation and understanding of the holidays this year & all the magic and wonder in her eyes make my heart smile. This is the first year of her watching the Christmas classics with us. She has enjoyed each and every one. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer was on the other day. At first it frightened her because of the Abominable Snowman, but once we explained that he was nice, she loved him.
Last Christmas, we made Christmas ornament stamps out of potatoes. These were a big hit with my daughter. She loves stamping projects & we are a big fan of potato stamps. I have seen many people using toilet paper rolls as stamps by bending them into various shapes such as leaves, hearts & pumpkins and I thought what a wonderful idea.
We used our tubes to form two different shaped ornaments. I cut one tube and bent it to form the top of the ornament.
I used a glue gun to glue the tops in place like shown. Make sure the top piece is flush with the tube.
The ornaments are then ready to stamp with. I cut out a Christmas tree shape for Mai to stamp on, but she was not interested in the tree. She just wanted to stamp on a plain piece of paper.
Mai did not want to use the tree, but mommy did. I stamped the ornaments on the tree & let the paint dry.
I used paint & glitter to decorate the ornaments & my daughter chose to use scissors & cut hers out for a project of her own.
