Toothbrush Painted Rainbow
If you are looking for a quick and super easy arts and crafts project for the kids. It does not get much easier than this toothbrush painted rainbow.
For some reason in our house, we go through tooth brushes like crazy. We just replaced our last set of toothbrushes. I was about to throw them out when I thought that we could use them for something fun. My daughter and I love to paint without paint brushes. We have seen toothbrush painting before, but had never tried it. Today, seemed like as good a time as any. Since we’re on a rainbow kick right now, we decided to paint a rainbow with our toothbrushes.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as watching your children create. It is a fascinating and beautiful thing. My little girl and I spend a lot of time creating together, but my favorite projects are the ones that she comes up with on her own. This lovely sea star was one of her ideas and she was so eager to share it with me.
Watercolor Dipped Flower Art

In our house, we love to work with watercolors. We like to make our own because we go through them so quickly. We have made solid watercolors, which we love to use, but most of all, we just water down acrylic paints or mix food coloring with water. It just so happens that we did both of these things this past week and had quite a bit of both leftover to create these gorgeous watercolor dipped flowers.

Grain Heart Craft
I come from a family of artists. When I was a little girl, I used to love looking at my aunt’s and uncle’s artwork. My aunt used to make beautiful landscapes and scenes using nothing but grains and I loved them. My daughter and I have dabbled a little with grain crafts. We made colored oat fall trees and textured shape mountains.
Cardboard Tube Lanterns
The Lunar New Year is just a couple of weeks away. Last week, we shared with you our paper plate hand fans. If you enjoyed those, you might want to try this simple idea as well. If you have an old cardboard tube and some paint kicking around, you can make one today to welcome in the Year of the Rooster.

Cut an old paper towel tube into thirds or use a single toilet paper tube. Paint the inside of the tube and the outside in the color or colors of your choice and let dry. Paint or use markers to make a design for your lantern. We used Sharpies to draw simple branches with flowers. Let the paint and/or markers dry completely before going to the next step.
Valentine’s Day Mixed Media Heart Art
Hearts, hearts, hearts, my daughter love hearts. She doodles them and cuts them out of construction paper all of the time. With her love for hearts, Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday for my little love bug.

One of our favorite crafts was a fall tree craft using pasta shells. This was a huge hit with my daughter. Moving into the holiday season, I thought that we could do another pasta tree craft, this time with a Christmas theme.

The beauty of mixed media is there are so many options in creating a piece of art. You can use paint, markers, ink, crayons, newspaper, construction paper, tissue paper or embellishments such as buttons or glitter to create your masterpiece.
