Pastel Resist Mosaic Jack-O-Lanterns

We do love making mosaics in this house. We’ve made paper mosaics, pasta mosaics and even nature mosaics. We also love making all kinds of resist art because, let’s face it, it is just so cool. So, what happens when we combine the two? We get these amazing pastel resist mosaic Jack-O-Lanterns that combine two of our favorites with lovely results. This is a beautiful fall or Halloween project for the kiddos.

Corrugated Cardboard Birch Trees

If you are an Amazon lover like I am, you probably have a house full of cardboard. My daughter uses all of our boxes to build boats and spaceships and other assorted fun and imaginative things. Cardboard is great for these kinds of projects, but it is also an awesome material for mixed media type art projects like these corrugated cardboard birch trees. The ridges in the cardboard add a beautiful texture to this birch tree project.

Pastel & Watercolor Winter Scenes

We are expecting our first snowfall tomorrow. There are very few things as beautiful to me than the first snowfall of the year. Just the thought of snow, made me giddy and inspired this fun and pretty art project for the kiddos. We live in the woods, so I just wanted something that looked like our backyard after a snow storm.

This is an easy painting project that will be fun for kids to adults. I think they will love how the pastel resist and the watercolors work together to make these simple winter scenes.

Mixed Media Fallen Leaves

Fall is coming, my friends. Soon the air will get cooler and our landscapes will be filled with warm fall colors. I can hardly wait. I love the beauty of the changing leaves. They are even beautiful as they fall to the ground. My daughter and I made these lovely mixed media fallen leaves over the weekend to celebrate our love for the fall. I have to admit that, once again, my daughter’s project came out better than mine. So, here is my talented 6-year-old showing you how it is done.

Shape Castle Silhouettes With Watercolors

It is Harry Potter mania in my house. My daughter and I just finished book one, The Sorcerer’s Stone and are now moving on to The Chamber of Secrets.  She is in love with all things Harry Potter and so am I.  This past week the focus has been on Hogwarts Castle. I love castles and with all of the Harry Potter talk in the house I felt inspired to paint a little bit of Hogwarts. This kicked off our castle projects. We have been practicing drawing and painting castles and made these fun castle silhouettes with watercolors and construction paper.
